KPMG Community Day

One of the best things about working for a big global firm like KPMG is that they have the money to spend on doing the sort of things I did today. Instead of spending a normal Friday sitting in the office making rich people richer, 200 or so people from my office spent today out in local communities taking on specific projects such as painting, litter picking and decorating.

I was part of a team up at 'The Park' in Knowle West planting around 400 trees around the perimeter of the very large playing fields.

The local contact there was instructing us about what we needed to do and told us all that a group of young people would be coming in a few weeks to continue some of the work we were starting. These people, she said, were from 'Love Bristol' and up to 1,000 were "actually going to be paying money to come and do all this sort of stuff!". She seemed pretty amazed by it all...

I enjoyed the day a lot and also felt encouraged about my tree-planting abilities. I usually feel very inadequate in the green-fingers/DIY department but spending a day with other accountants far more uncomfortable with it all than me made me feel like an expert!
